A group of miscreants beat up a 65-year-old man at his house in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj, after they failed to find his daughter, who was abducted and raped allegedly by them around a month ago.
Police detained four persons-Liton Miah, Akai Miah, Alam Miah and Dilak Miah-in connection with the attack at Aliganj bazaar after a video of the elderly man, describing the incident in public, went viral. But the prime suspect Shamim Miah is on the run, reports our Sylhet correspondent. Locals and police sources said the rape victim, along with her child, was separated from her husband after two years of marriage and was living with the father.
Shamim used to tease her regularly-he and his people kidnapped the woman and allegedly raped her, the father said.
Later, the elderly man sent the daughter away to work as a housemaid elsewhere.
The gang swooped in on the elderly man’s house last night,looking for his daughter. As she was not there, they beat up the father with iron rods, he added.
Md Musleh Uddin Ahmed, inspector of Jagannathpur Police Station, said, “Informed by locals, we arranged treatment for the injured father and detained the four in connection with the incidents”.
