A court here yesterday awarded life-term imprisonment to man for raping a minor girl at Hashimpur area under Chandanaish Upazila of the district in 2011.
The judge Mohammad Rezaul Karim of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 delivered the judgment convicting Shamsul Alam, 44, of the same area in presence of the convict.
The court also fined Tk 50 thousand of the convict.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that one neighbour
Shamsul forcefully raped the 8-year old daughter of Shah Alam taking her to his house on October 2 in 2011.
As the child became ill, the rapist left the place while the locals admitted her to local health complex and later she was shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Later, on October 4, victim’s filed a case with Chandanaish thana in this connection and the accused gave confessional statement before the court after arrest.
Police submitted charge-sheet on January 8 in 2012 while the court framed charges on February 29 in the same year.
The court pronounced the judgment after examining a total of eight prosecution witnesses in the case.
The court also asked the District Collector to realise the penalty from the convict and give the money to the victim.
