Rangpur Medical College closed after BCL infighting

Authorities on Wednesday declared Rangpur Medical College closed for an indefinite period following a clash between two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists that left 10 of them injured. Sources said all the resident students of the medical college have been asked to vacate their dormitories by 3 pm today. Earlier, a clash broke between two factions of BCL Rangpur Medical College unit over a Pahela Baishakh programme on the campus in the morning. Sub-inspector Kibria, also in-charge of Dhap police outpost, said a group of activists of the medical college unit BCL led by Rafiq and another group of BCL led by Ferdous locked into a clash at Mukta Hostel on the college campus over Pahela Baishakh programme on Tuesday night. The two groups, equipped with sharp weapons, attacked each other around 7:00 am on Wednesday over the same issue, leaving 10 activists injured. — Rangpur, Apr 15 (UNB)
