The fifth divisional sport competitions- 2017 of the government officials, employees and their children of all eight districts under Rangpur division were held amid festivity in Panchagarh Sirajul Islam Stadium on Saturday.
The divisional administration with assistance of Bangladesh Government Employees Welfare Board (BGEWB) and Panchagarh district administration arranged the competitions in the sub-Himalayan district town.
Director General of BGEWB Shirin Akhter inaugurated the competitions by hoisting the national flag amid singing of the national anthem and subsequently, releasing balloons and pigeons in the colourful opening ceremony as the chief guest.
The Deputy Commissioners of all eights districts under Rangpur division also hoisted their respective district flags simultaneously at the opening ceremony.
With Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed in the chair, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Minu Shill attended the inaugural ceremony as the special guest.
Deputy Commissioner of Panchagarh Amal Krishna Mandal delivered welcome speech in the ceremony.
The Deputy Commissioners from all eight districts in Rangpur division, government officials, family members of the officials and employees, hundreds of spectators and students of different educational institutions were present.
While addressing the occasion, the chief guest expressed her satisfaction over the excellent arrangement of the sport competitions in the colourfully decorated stadium and distributed prizes among the winners in different sport events.
A total of 300 participants from all eight districts and one city under Rangpur division participated in 41 sports events in the competitions.
