Jatiya Party Secretary General Moshiur Rahman Ranga on Tuesday apologized to Noor Hossain’s mother for his ‘unaware’ comments about him (Noor Hossain).
“I apologize from my heart to Noor Hossain’s mother as she is hurt by my unaware comments on him. I am also withdrawing my comments which created negative impacts,” Ranga said this while discussing with journalists at the party’s Banani office yesterday noon.
He expressed the hope that all misunderstandings about the comments will be ended by his apologize.
Earlier on Monday, Ranga criticized Noor Hossain, who was killed during the movement against Ershad’s autocratic rule in 90s.
Ranga said that Noor Hossain was a drug-addicted person. “Who was Noor Hossain? A drug addicted person, a Yaba addicted, a Phensydil addicted,” he said at a discussion meeting of the party.
The comments have created huge criticism across the country, especially in the political arena. Both the ruling Awami League and the BNP leaders criticized Ranag over his remarks.
Besides, Noor Hossain’s mother threatened to file case against Ranga for his bad comments.
Explaining his regrets, Ranga said that every year Awami League and the BNP criticize former President Hussain Muhammad Ershad during observing Noor Hossain day.
“Our party men are angry over the harsh criticism of our leader Ershad. In this circumstance I have delivered my speech on the matter. Then unwillingly I said something against Noor Hossain,” Ranga said.
He said, “It has hurt Noor Hossain’s family members. I am regretted for that remark.” Ranga said late President Ershad was also sympathized to the Noor Hossain’s family.
