Rajshahi Royal clinched the title of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL) Twenty20 cricket title beating Khulna Tigers by 21 runs in the final match at the flood-lit Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Friday.
Sent into bat first, Rajshahi Royals piled up a mammoth total of 170 for the loss of four wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then restricted Khulna Tigers to 149 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.
Rajshahi Royals lost their first wicket for 14 runs.
Then Liton Das and Irfan Sukkur mended the innings contributing together 49 runs for the second wicket partnership before Liton Das was caught by Najmul Hossain Shanto off Shahidul Islam when Rajshahi’s total was 63 for the loss of two wickets.
After Liton’s dismissal, Irfan Sukkur and Shoaib Malik added together 31 runs before Shoaib Malik (9) was caught by Najmul Hossain Shanto off Robbie Frylinck when Rajshahi’s score was 94 for the loss of three wickets.
After Shoaib’s departure, Irfan Sukkur was caught by Shafiul Islam off Mohammad Amir when Rajshahi’s total was 99 for the loss of four wickets.
Irfan Sukkur hammered a superb 52. His 35-ball innings was studded with six fours and two sixes.
Later, Andre Russell and Mohammad Newaz put on together 71 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnership before Rajshahi’s innings came to an end.
Newaz remained unbeaten with 41. His 20-ball innings saw six fours and two sixes.
Russell remained unbeaten with 27. He hit three sixes in his 16-ball knock.
Liton Das made 25from 28 balls featuring one four and one six.
Mohammad Amir got two wickets conceding 35 runs, while Shahidul Islam and Robbie Frylinck took one wicket each for 23 and 33 runs respectively.
Khulna Tigers had a poor start as they lost their early two wickets 11 runs.
Later, Shamsur Rahman and Rilee Rossouw mended the innings adding together 74 runs for the third wicket partnership before Rossouw was caught by Andre Russell off Mohammad Newaz when Khulna Tigers total was 85 for the loss of three wickets.
After Rossouw’s dismissal, Shamsur Rahman was caught by Afif Hossain off Kamrul Islam Rabbi when Khulna’s score was 101 for the loss of four wickets.
Shamsur Rahman hit a fine 52. His 43-ball innings had four fours and two sixes.
Rossouw made 37 from 26 balls including one four and one six.
After Shamsur Rahman’s departure, Najibullah Zadran (4) was caught by Newaz off Kamrul Islam Rabbi when Khulna Tigers total was 105 for the loss of five wickets.
After Najibullah Zadran’s dismissal, Mushfiqur Rahim (21) was cleanly bowled out by Andre Russell when Khulna’s score was 134 for the loss of six wickets.
Then Robbie Frylinck (12) was caught by Shoaib Malik off Mohammad Irfan when team’s total 141 for the loss of seven wickets.
Later, Shahidul Islam (0) was bowled out by Andre Russell when Khulna’s score was 142 for the loss of eight wickets.
Mohammad Irfan, Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Andre Russell were the most successful bowlers of Rajshahi Royals who bagged two wickets each instead of 18, 29 and 32 runs respectively.
Andre Russell was adjudged the Man of the Match.
