Railway Minister Mujibul Haque said yesterday that the Bangladesh Railway was completely neglected during the previous BNP Government and at that time, no initiative was taken for the development of the railway.
Instead of the development , 13 thousand workers were suspended in the name of Golden Handshake but on 4 December 2011, during the Awami League Government, separate Railway Ministry was constituted for the development of the railway.
The present Awami League government gave special attention to the railway. New railway lines are being set up across the country. This has increased rail connectivity across the country. New coach and the engine are being imported from overseas to increase passenger service. As because railways are safe and affordable, so people of the country are comfortable to travel by train. But now the number of passenger trains is increasing day by day. Before that the number of passengers train was comparatively lesser. He said these words while talking to the journalists after visiting the country’s largest Saidpur Railway Workshop at 11am.

During this time the Director General of the Bangladesh Railway (GM) Md.Amjad Hossain, Additional Superintendent (RS) Shamsuzzoha, GM (Western Region) Ramjan Ali, Chief Controller (Western Region) Belal Hossain Sarkar and Railway senior officials were present.
