Railway to be built modern and time-befitting: Sujon

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon, MP, has said the existing railway system to be built as modern and time-befitting for the public interest.
“The present government has a plan of recruiting 10,000 to 15,000 officers and employees within the shortest possible time to intensify the railway services,” he said while visiting different infrastructures and installations of Rajshahi Railway Bhaban and Railway Station on Friday, reports BSS. Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Dr Samil Uddin Ahmed Shimul, MP, Advocate Adiba Anjum Mita, MP, Railway Secretary Selim Reja, Director General of Bangladesh Railway DN Mazumder, Additional Director General Ajoy Kumar Podder and General Manager Mihir Kanti Guho accompanied the minister during the visit.
Minister Nurul Islam said the government has been working with a farsighted plan of making the Bangladesh Railway a total modernized. “We want to build the own capacity of the railway through transforming it into a disciplined system besides ensuring quality services to the passengers,” he added.
A multi-storied rail bhaban will be built in Rajshahi. Works of transforming all the railways into broad gauge are now progressing. The existing Ishwardi-Joydevpur and Rajshahi-Abdulpur lines will be turned into double lines. There will be a railway network in every district. The minister also said the government has also planned to transport vegetables and the seasonal fruits to different district towns including the capital Dhaka from the northern region through railway. Referring to the present cordial relation between Bangladesh and the neighbouring India in terms of trade and business he said the relation will be further bolstered through modernization of railway. Minister Nurul Islam said the government has also plan of establishing railway connection between India and Nepal.
In the afternoon, the Railway Minister also visited Rohanpur and Rajshahi Court Railway Stations.
