Rail connectivity to be increased with neighbours

Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan on Sunday said, the railway connectivity with the neighbouring countries will be increased in the coming days.
“The purpose of the connectivity with the negbouring countries is to communicate with the Asian countries.The government will also increase internal railway tracks,” Nurul Islam Sujan said.
He said this while speaking at the “Meet the Press” programme in the capital’s Railway Bhaban.
“The government is thinking to build a railway network with Myanmar, from where it will be easier to connect with China and eventually, Bangladesh will be
connected with Thailand and Malaysia through Trains Asian route,” he said.
The minister said, “Besides, two projects–Padma Rail Link and Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar-Gundum Rail Line–of the 10 fast-track mega projects of the Prime Minister’s Delta Plan, will be completed soon.
Many achievements of Bangladesh Railway had faded away for black marketeers, he said.
The ministry are planning to introduce a system of showing national identity card for preventing black marketing of tickets, he said.
According to the plan, a passenger has to show NID card for buying tickets.
In case of buying four tickets, NID of all four passengers have to be displayed on ticket counter, the minister added.
‘Under-18 passengers are relaxed from the procedure,’ he added.
The feasibility study of the hi-speed train service on the Dhaka-Chittagong section is being carried out, he added
“To make the railway sector a profitable one, carrying of goods will be prioritized,” he said.
A total of 240 new coaches will be added soon, said the minister.
