A man hurled a shoe at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi during his road show in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday.
Rahul, riding in an open top vehicle, had a close shave as the shoe just missed his head. The shoe
missed Rahul and hit the hand of Jitin Prasada. The shoe-thrower gave his name as Hariom Mishr and claimed he was a reporter of a local news channel. The assaulter has been taken into custody, police said. It is not yet known why he threw the shoe.
Rahul was unfazed by the shoe incident. “I am not afraid of such attacks,” he said, blaming BJP and RSS for the act. While I was headed here, I was attacked by the people of BJP and RSS. I want to tell that that they can attack me as many as times as they want, I will not back down and will keep on fighting.
The Congress leader has been on a poll campaign in the election-bound state.
There have been a number of shoe and ink attacks on politicians recently. This month, a shoe was hurled at Punjab revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia by Congress leader Tarlochan Singh in the Punjab assembly.
Recently, AAP leader Manish Sisodia faced an ink attack while Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had a shoe hurled at him in April.
