Ragib Ali`s bail petition moved in HC

Staff Reporter :
Ragib Ali was falsely shown as absconder when he went to India for treatment through immigration and came back through immigration. Barrister Mainul Hosein argued before Justice Syed Dastagir Hossain and Justice Ataur Rahman of High Court Division. The claim of the prosecution that he was absconding was misleading to get his bail cancelled. Documents are available to show he had gone for treatment. He submitted if necessary his client was ready to deposit his passport. The fact that Sebayet Pankaj Gupta sold the tea garden to his son against legitimate payment some sixteen years back is not in dispute. Now the allegation is that the permission from the Land Ministry was forged. Land Ministry started the case and not Sebayet filed the case. Again it is not denied that the application for permission was also made by the same Sebayet. But he is free on bail. Land has been returned to him also.
Barrister Hosein emphasised that Ragib Ali is a very known person holding respectable positions in educational institutions and other public bodies. The question of not facing such a frivolous case has to be baseless.
Barrister Hosein expressed fear that the concerned land is most probably now up for grabbing by powerful persons and his client is being a victim of vicious conspiracy. Their Lordships issued rule last Monday returnable within one week to know why he and his son should not be enlarged on bail.
Barrister Mainul Hosein and Senior Advocate Mohammad Ali appeared for the petitioners.
