Arson cases: Rafiq, MK Anwar among 58 BNP men chargesheeted

The police yesterday (Wednesday) submitted two charge-sheets to a Dhaka court against 58 leaders and activists of 20-party alliance including MK Anwar, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s Adviser Khandaker Mahbub Hossain in a case lodged in connection with arson attack and explosion of explosive substances in the Jatrabari area on January 23.
Investigation Officer of the case Muraduzzaman submitted the charge sheets to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka in the afternoon. The number of the case is Jatrabari 61(1)15. The charge sheets say that as the charges were not proved as 16 accused persons, their names were dropped from the charge sheets.
The case was filed with Jatrabari Police Station of the capital. Other accused include journalist Shaokot Mahmud, Shamsul Islam Shimul Biswas, Meer Abu Zafar Shamsuddin alias Didar,  
Khaleda Zia’s Press Secretary Maruf Kamal, Barkat Ullah Bulu, Aman Ullah Aman, Shirin Sultana, Meer Sharafat Ali Sofu, Habibunnabi Khan Sohel, Azizul Bari Helal, former MP Salahuddin Ahmed and his sons Tavir and Rony, former Commissioner Nabiullah Nabi and Commissioners Atiqullah and Badar Sarder.
The charge sheets say that the accused persons set ablaze a bus of Tarab Paribahan in front of Kajla Mohila Madrasa in Jatrabari area on January 23 night. The following day, Police Sub-Inspector Abdullah Biswas filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station.
