The Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed said the elite force would not take the responsibility for criminal activities committed by its members and will never compromise with their unprofessional acts.
The DG came up with the comment while addressing as the chief guest in a two-day annual Commanding Officer’s (COs) conference at RAB Headquarters in the city.
The conference ended on Wednesday afternoon.
Referring to the Naryanganj incident, the RAB DG also issued warnings against any sort of criminal activities by its personnel in future. The elite force chief said, “Of course this is a message for unscrupulous RAB personnel that no one will be spared. Anybody who commits crime will be punished. No one is above the law.”
He criticized some RAB officials’ involvement in the murder of seven persons in Narayanganj that tarnished the force’s image.
The DG alerted the elite force personnel and gave necessary instruction to them so that nobody will have to involve in such crime further.
“The verdict of the seven-murder is not only an ultimatum for the RAB members, even it will carry a message for all,” the elite force chief opined.
He repeatedly urged the RAB members to refrain from committing crimes as the force has already earned good name in curbing militancy and crimes.
Meanwhile, the Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Monday, convictions of 25 former RAB personnel, 16 with death penalties, in sensational Narayanganj seven-murder case have, in fact, enhanced the image of the elite force.
“RAB now has a better image after cooperating in the investigation into the 2014 murders in Narayanganj,”
Asked that if there will be any change in RAB after this verdict, Kamal said, “Al those RAB officials went astray. No law enforcing force encourage their members to do such thing, rather it discourage these. They choose to abandon the right path, so there is no question of changing the law. If they could escape through loop holes of law, then it could have been considered.”
RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan told The New Nation on Wednesday evening, “This was a pre-scheduled conference where many instructions were given to the force members.”
He categorically confessed that the elite force DG criticized some bad activities, including seven-murder and evaluated the performance of the field level to higher tier of the force.
