Sinha killing: RAB takes three witnesses on remand

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Saturday took three accused, who are witnesses in cases filed by police over the killing of ex-Major Sinha Md Rashed Khan in police firing, on a four-day fresh remand in the case filed by Sinha’s sister.
A team of RAB-15 led by its Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police and Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Khairul Islam brought them from Cox’s Bazar jail for their medical check-up around 11am, confirmed Md Mokammel Hossain, Superintendent of the Jail. The three suspects Md Nurul Amin, Md Nezamuddina and Md Ayaj were made prime witnesses in two cases which were filed against Shipra Debnath and Shahedul Islam Sifat, whom police arrested after death of Sinha in police firing at a check post in Cox’s Bazar’s Marine Drive on July 31.
On Tuesday, Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court Judge Tamanna Farah granted a 4-day remand for the trio after the case Investigation Officer ASP Khairul Islam of RAB 15 appealed to the court for seven days.
Earlier on August 14, RAB took the three suspects along with four accused policemen for a 7-day interrogation over the Sinha murder case.
On August 11, RAB detained the trio for their suspected involvement in the murder case from Marishbunia area.
On August 20, the trio along with four policemen were sent to jail in the murder case on completion of their first-term remand.
Major Sinha was shot dead at Shamlapur check post on the night of July 31 on his way back to Nilima Resort in Himchhari area of Cox’s Bazar on Marine Drive after filming a video on Marishbunia hill in Teknaf.
His elder sister, Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, filed a case with the Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court over the killing, against a number of policemen of Teknaf police station.
