RAB-13 has arrested two people, including the ringleader of an inter-district kidnapping and ransom ring, in Rangpur. In a press conference, RAB said that two nursery traders of Goalkhali, Khalishpur, Khulna were doing business through online pages. Based on that information, Isha Mia and her colleague Abdul Latif went to Khulna Khalishpur to buy saplings and invited the Khulna businessman to test the soil in Rangpur.
At that invitation, when the Khulna businessman reached Rangpur Modern junction on January 13 at around 10:30 pm, the kidnappers and members of the ransom gang took him on a motorcycle to the house of Ruhul Amin in Charra village of Fulbari in Gangachara upazila. Bachchu Chandra (52), Swapan Roy (22) and Khadija Begum (36) were active members of the kidnapping and ransom ring.
They have already been arrested with arms, ammunition and home-made weapons. Later, they tied their hands and feet in a secluded room and demanded a ransom of five lakh rupees. On 14 January, RAB-13 rescued the abducted man unharmed and arrested Bachchu Chandra, Swapan Roy and Khadija Begum, all active members of the kidnapping and ransom gang, with weapons, ammunition and home-made weapons. His accomplice Abdul Latif Mia escaped. A RAB-13 expedition team on January 19 arrested Isha Mia, a member of the fugitive kidnapping ring, from Dhaperhat in Gaibandha district and Abdul Latif from Hemayetpur in Savar, Dhaka on the basis of information provided by him.
During interrogation, the detainees confessed to being members of an organized ransom group and their involvement in the incident. It was informed at the press conference that the process of handing over the arrested persons to the concerned police station is underway.
