Capitalising coronavirus pandemic, Dr Ishrat Rafique Eshita used to charge money providing fake certificates to doctors by conducting virtual workshops and seminars.
Besides, she used to attract young people alluring them to provide certificates by foreigners in exchange of cash.
She arranged Covid-19 treatment training for minimum 120 doctors during the outbreak and provided them training certificates in exchange of Tk 3,000-4,000 each.
A female doctor adopts cheating for fame and fortune
It was disclosed by Commander Khondker Al Moyeen, Director of the Legal and Media Wing of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), while addressing a press conference at the RAB’s Media Centre at Karwan Bazar in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
The so-called medical doctor and researcher Ishrat Rafique Eshita and her accomplice Shahidul Islam Didar were arrested by RAB during a drive at about 9:30am on Sunday at a house at 481,2/a, North Ibrahimpur, Mirpur 13, Dhaka.
She bought the rank of ‘Brigadier General’ from a website operating from the Philippines for US$400, the RAB official said.
Eshita started an organisation named “Young World Leader for Humanity’ which has no approval or registration. She arranged trainings in Afghanistan and Burundi and arranged award programmes there.
She appeared on different satellite television channels and IPTV talk shows, and on social media, as an expert in cancer, Covid-19 treatment, and other health issues.
She convinced various media houses to publish reports of her ‘success story,’ said the RAB official.
The other arrestee is Eshita’s associate, Shahidul Islam Didar, 29, who claimed to be founder and ambassador of various organisations.
