Seven accused, including four cops, who are on remand in the case filed over the killing of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan in police firing have divulged important information, says investigation agency Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
At a briefing on Wednesday, the elite force also said the evidence of the three cases collected by police after the killing of the former army official were also handed over to it.
Besides, 29 electronic devices seized from Sinha’s companion Shipra Devnath will be handed over to the investigation officer of the case on Thursday.
The seven accused were taken on remand on August 14, two days after they were placed on a seven-day remand.
The policemen who were remanded are assistant sub-inspector Liton Mia, and constables Safanur Rahman, Kamal Hossain and Abdullah.
The rest three are Mohammad Ayas, M Nurul Amin and Mohammad Nazimuddin of Marishbunia under Baharchhara union of Teknaf upazila. All of them are witnesses in cases filed by police over the killing of the former army official.
Meanwhile, a Cox’s Bazar court has sent seven accused to jail as police produced them before the court in a case filed over the murder of ex-major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan in Teknaf.
The court of Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah ordered to send them to jail on Thursday.
Earlier on August 12, the same court granted a seven-day remand for them after hearing a 10-day remand petition filed by the RAB.
In the meantime, the inquiry committee formed by the home ministry has demanded 7 more working days to submit the report over the killing of Ex-major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan in Cox’s Bazar police firing.
“The time extension was sought as we could not quiz OC Pradeep,” Chittagong Divisional Additional Commissioner Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, convenor of the probe body, said.
Earlier, the deadline for submitting the probe report over the case was fixed on August 23.
Besides, the High Court on Thursday dismissed a writ seeking action against two superintendents of police (SPs) over making personal photos and videos of Shipra Devnath, a Stamford University student and one of the associates of Major (retd) Sinha Rashed Khan who was killed in police firing, viral on social networking site Facebook.
An HC bench turned down the writ citing that it was not pressed properly.
Earlier on August 16, Supreme Court lawyer Monoj Kumar Bhowmik filed the writ in the form of public interest litigation.
Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post in Teknaf upazila on July 31.
His elder sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on August 5.
