RAB conducts special raids against trafficking of narcotics, arms

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 forces has started special drives against drug and arms in Chittagong and adjoining districts. RAB-7 sources said they have already recovered 221 firearms, 36 magazines and 2,147 rounds of bullets from January till yesterday (Friday). Besides, they also recovered 22,532 bottles of phensidyl syrup, 1,438 bottle foreign-made wines, 294,930 liters of local wines, 656 gram Ganjas, 360 gram heroin, 400 gram opium and 64,84,318 pieces of Yaba tablet so far in this year.
Mimtanur Rahman, Assistant Superintendent of Police and Senior Director of RAB-7 said, RAB is continuing the raids to nab the criminals and recover the drug and arms. The RAB team recovered huge drugs and arms in the current year. RAB-7 is alert regarding the crimes, and arms and drug smuggling.
Sources said two notorious drug smugglers including Drug King Baittya Faruk and Drug Don Didar were killed in gun fight with RAB in the current month. Baittya Faruk was killed on Thursday night while Didar was killed on October 12 last. RAB sources said the RAB-7 teams raided the four listed Yaba smugglers houses at Teknaf on Wednesday last. The team arrested 31 Rohingya people from there and recovered huge yaba.
The four Yaba Dons were identified as Jafar Ahamod, Abdul Sikkir, Haji Saiful Karim and Anwar. They are listed Yaba smugglers in the list of home ministry, said officials of RAB. Sources said, on October 8 last, RAB recovered one lakh pieces of Yaba tablet and arrested a total of three Yaba smugglers named Mohammed Rony, Mohammed Shohel and Ashar from a bus at Bohoddarhat area in the port city. Rohingya people are creating troubles in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Banderban. The Rohingyas are involved in arms smuggling, yaba trading and drugs and underground political activities in the areas, the law enforcing agencies and district administration officials said. Commanding Officer (CO) of RAB-7 Lt Colonel Miftah Uddin said, “The Myanmar citizens are using the engines of buses or trucks at the wooden boat for speed. As a result, they can come to Bangladesh territory easily and return within a short time after delivering the drugs to the smugglers.” Lt.col Miftahuddin disclosed it a press meet held at Chandgaon RAB office in Chittagong on Thursday.
Miftah Uddin further mentioned, “Acting on secret information, a team of RAB recovered 8 lakh pieces of Yaba tablet and arrested a total of four Yaba smugglers, who are Myanmar citizens, from fishing trawler on Bay of Bengal on September 27 last.
