Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday asked the authorities concerned to begin work as soon as possible to upgrade the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar road into a four- lane one.
He said this in a meeting with officials of Chittagong Road Zone, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation ( BRTC) and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority(BRTA) on Thursday morning.
Obaidul Quader joined the meeting virtually from his official residence.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the contraction of the road while she was addressing a function marking the inauguration of Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marin Driveway at Inani beach of Ukhia upazila of Co’s Bazar on May 6,2017.
“Already the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway has been made four-lane. Now the Cox’s Bazar-Chittagong Highway will be turned into a four-lane one soon”, she said.
Chattogram- Cox’s Bazar highway is one of the busiest highways in Bangladesh. Roads and Highways Department (R&D dept.) started a survey project to develop the road in 2013 considering the significance of tourism.
Quader also directed the officials concerned to give importance to the roads in Chittagong Hill Tracts.
The Minister also directed the officials concerned to carry out proper repair work of the vehicles of BRTC fleet.
