Quality teachers for quality education emphasised

Qualitative change is a must to promote the country’s higher education, said Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury.
He also emphasized on building the quality faculty members to provide quality education to the students to spread qualitative knowledge among the students He was addressing in a certificate distribution ceremony of a training programme titled ‘Professional Development Training for Assistant Professors’ offered to the assistant teachers here, held at Vice-Chancellors conference room on Monday noon.
Earlier, the two-day long training session was held on February 18-19, aiming to make the faculty members more skilled professionally and so for the teachers could enact their knowledge in class rooms. Chittagong University Institutional Quality Assuracne Cell (IQUAC) offered the training program to the teachers. Dr Iftekahr Uddin Chowdhury argued the teachers to acquire knowledge, to discover the unknown and to be skilled professionally, saying only a quality and trained teachers can spread quality education and generate qualitative knowledge. He also emphasized on holding such a training program in the university to make the teachers know the outer and developed world’s educational curriculum and by comparing those we have to frame a modern and qualitative curriculum for the students.
 With Prof Dr Jahangir Alam, director of IQIEC in chair, the certificate-giving ceremony was also addressed by pro-vice chancellor Porf Dr Shirin Aktar, CUTA president Prof Dr Awrengojeb, additionalr director of IQIEC, Manzurul Alam and Prof Amir Mohammad Nasrullah.
Another report adds: A workshop on self-assessment activity was held at Chittagong University’s philosophy department yesterday, focusing on self-personality, qualities, barriers and possibilities of the persons. CU Philosophy department and Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) under University Grants Commission (UGC) jointly hold the day-long workshop at conference room of philosophy departments’ chair.
Among others CU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury as chief guest, pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr Shirin Aktar, Dean of Arts and Humanities, Dr Sekandar Chowdhury as special guest, IEQUAC director Prof Dr Jahangir Alam and additional director Prof Dr Sukanta Bhattacharwa as resource persons, sub-project manager of the CP-3170 Dr NHM Abu Bakar addressed the workshop.
Masum Ahmed, faculty member of philosophy department chaired it while associate Prof Dr FM Anyet Hossain conducted it.

Dr Iftekhar said, such a workshop would play a significant role to trace the problems in the field of higher educational institutions and research, to testify the quality and capability of the faculty members and to discover the way to solve the barriers and problems. “It will enable the teachers to teach the students more efficiently,” he added.
