Promoting and ensuring quality public services is always helpful of making common people mentally satisfied coupled with attaining cherished change in the society.
Quality public service delivery is also important for establishing good governance. So, all the service-delivery entities should devise ways and means on how to provide quality public services for better governance for further socio-economic development.
The observation came at a district-level Kaisen Convention titled “Improving Public Services through Total Quality Management (IPS-TQM)” at conference hall of Deputy Commissioner in Rajshahi. IPS-TQM Project of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) and district administration jointly organized the convention sharing impressive Kaizen cases of the upazila-level officers. Twenty-four departments presented on Kaizen initiative implemented in their respective offices through multimedia presentation. Each case demonstrated motivation and continued efforts of the field-level officers for improvement.
The Project offers skills to identify problems and find solutions in a methodical way, putting first priority to people’s satisfaction from beginning to end. The convention was a great opportunity to share impressive Kaizen cases of the upazila-level officers.
Small but significant improvements are referred as “Kaizen” (Kai means change, and Zen means better, the two words together mean “continuous improvement” in Japanese) in Total Quality Management.
Director of IPS-TQM Project Banik Gour Sundar addressed the convention as focal person with Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader in the chair. Deputy Project Director Jahidul Islam moderated the discussion. Banik Sundar said by piling up small blocks of success, it is possible to spread faithful, pro-citizen public services across the district and finally establish laudable governance here.
