Quality education needs to keep pace with globalization

Huge expansion of higher education has taken place in Bangladesh in terms of quantity as enrolment at tertiary level education in the country is more than 26 Lakh. Research and innovation is being flourished through Academic Innovation Fund (AIF) of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP). Tk 400 crore have been allocated from AIF in different research sub-projects of universities for enhancement of research and innovation for last 3 years.
Now ensuring quality education is demand of the day to keep pace with globalization, observed UGC Chairman (State Minister) Prof Dr AK Azad Chowdhury.
He made the observation while speaking as the chief guest at a closing ceremony of a 3-day long workshop on ‘Quality Assurance System in Higher Education’ at UGC auditorium on Thursday. UGC Member Prof Dr M Muhibur Rahman presided over the ceremony.
Dr Md Mokhlesur Rahman, Senior Operations Officer, World Bank, Bangladesh was the special guest. Prof Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Head of Quality Assuarance Unit of HEQEP presented the key-note paper on the occasion. Md Korban Ali, Director (In-charge) of HEQEP gave the welcome address.
UGC Chairman observed that Quality Assurance Unit has been developed for quality assurance in higher education. If quality education could be ensured, higher education will make significant contribution to the global knowledge pool, he added.
He further said that our industries and business leaders demand graduates equiped with updated knowledge and skills. He, in this regard observed that accomplished and skilled manpower are the demand of the day in all sectors.
UGC Members – Prof Dr Atful Hye Shibly, Prof Dr Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, Prof Dr Abul Hashem and Prof Dr Md Akhter Hossain, UGC Secretary Dr Md Khaled, Vice-Chancellors and Pro Vice-Chancellors of different universities, Deans, senior professors and high officials of UGC and HEQEP participated in the workshop.
