10 more accused of Pirganj violence put on two-day remand

Ten more accused arsonists among 70 arrested so far in the Pirganj arson attack, vandalism, violence and looting properties case were taken on two-day police remand today.
Investigating Officer (IO) of the case and Officer-in-Charge (OC- Investigation) of Pirganj police station Mahbub Rahman produced a seven-day remand plea before a court today against 10 arrested accused persons in the case. After hearing the plea, judge of the Pirganj Cognizance Court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Fazle Elahi granted remand for two days for each of 10 accused persons.
Talking to BSS tonight, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirganj police station Saresh Chandra said the 10 new accused persons taking on two-day remand today also include prime suspects and Shibir activists Abdullah Al Mamun and Omar Farooq alias Tonet.
He said the two Shibir activists came to Majhipara village in Pirganj from adullapur on a motorcycle with petrol and allegedly participated in the arson attacks and violence against the Hindu community at night on October 17 last.
“A total of 70 people have been arrested so far in four cases filed with Pirganj police station in connection with the provocative post on Facebook, narson attacks, looting, vandalism and violence in Majhipara village,” he said.  
OC Saresh said a total of four cases have been registered with Pirganj police station in connections with the violence in Baro Karimpur Majhipara village. “The four filed cases include three under the Digital Security Act and another in connection with the arson attacks, looting, assault, vandalism and robbery,” he added.
Earlier, arrested prime suspects Saikat Mandal and Rabiul Islam gave confessional statements before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate of Rangpur Md Delwar Hossain admitting their involvement in the Pirganj iolence. They are now in jail hajat.
Previously, the 50 accused persons, who were put on three-day remand in two phases in connection with the arson, vandalism and looting in village Majhipara of Pirganj upazila, were also sent to the jail hajat on completion of their rOn October 17 last, hundreds of miscreants attacked, vandalised and set fire to houses of the Hindu community in Majhipara village following aprovocative post on Facebook from the ID of Paritosh Sarker of the same village.
