General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader’s heart is functioning without a support now, the doctors said.
Doctors have removed an intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) device attached to ailing Obaidul Quader, as his condition improved.
Dr Abu Nasar Rizvi, Neurologist and Director of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), stated this on Thursday afternoon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.
Dr Abu Nasar Rizvi, who is now accompanying Obaidul Quader, talked to the reporters quoting Dr Philip Koh Soon, the head of the five-member medical board formed to treat Obaidul Quader. “His kidneys are functioning well and the dose of sedatives has been lessened,” said Dr Rizvi adding that the road, transport and bridges minister is also responding to the call of the doctors.
Earlier, Dr Philip briefed the reporters about Obaidul’s medical condition for the third consecutive day. Obaidul’s wife Begum Isratunnesa Quader, MP Sheikh Helaluddin, Bangladeshi High Commissioner to Singapore Mustafizur Rahman, and Dr Abu Nasar Rizvi were present there.
Dr Philip Koh Soon will brief media today (Friday) at 4pm local time.
On Tuesday, the medical board under Dr Philip considered doing bypass surgery on Obaidul after extensively examining his condition.
Obaidul Quader was admitted to the Coronary Care Unit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Sunday due to the complications.
Later, doctors found three blockages in his coronary arteries following an angiogram.
