Amid criticism from different quarters, General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Obaidul Quader on Saturday said, there is no need to form the school committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
“The concept of having school committees of BCL, student wing of AL, is impractical. It is as well unwise. The soft-minded school-going students should not be involved with student politics in the early stage of their life,” Quader said.
He said these in a programme organised on the occasion of the Martyred Intellectuals Day and the Victory Day at Abdul Karim Shahitto Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy on Saturday.
‘The student politics can exist in college and university levels for the welfare of the students, but it should not be introduced in school level,’ Quader said.
He warned the Chhatra League leaders and activists about the bad impact and asked them to refrain from thinking of such activity that could tarnish the image of Awami League.
The Organising Secretary of the Awami League and former President of
Chhatra League, AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and others also spoke in the discussion.
BCL President Saifur Rahman Sohag told The New Nation on Saturday that they had stopped all the programme in this connection receiving direction from Obaidul Quader. “He is our party leader. Definitely we will follow his advice,” Sohag said.
With an aim to spread the ideologies of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman among the students, the pro-Awami League student body in November asked all its organisational units to form committees at secondary schools in their respective areas.
The decision, taken at an emergency meeting of the BCL central executive body on November 21, comes amid incidents of violence and intra-organisation conflicts among student groups in different universities and colleges.
