Jannat Akter lost her father while she was a student of class six. She and her family had to face a terrible crisis since the demise of the lone earner of the family. Her mother had no way with her three children. Jannat’s study met an uncertainty. In such a situation, an orphanage run by Qatar Charity came forward to take her total responsibility. They extended a hand of cooperation. Jannat again started to see a new form of life.
She is now a 10th grader in an orphanage run by Qatar Charity, an international charity organization, in Bhairab upazila under Kishoreganj district. Now she is dreaming of higher education and waiting for the day that will end her all sufferings. She will build a prosperous time for herself and other family members.
“All of my expenses, including reading and writing, have been borne by the Qatari Charity since I came here. Here I am living a healthy normal life. I want to take higher education after completing the study here. I want to do something for the family,” said Jannat.
Not only for Jannat, the Qatar Charity is providing financial help to nearly 3000 orphans in Bangladesh to secure their life from helplessness and to construct a better future from uncertainty.
Apart from Bhairab in Kishoreganj, the organization has more than 15 social welfare centers across the country, including Dhamrai in Dhaka, Ashulia, Surma in Sylhet, Fakirhat in Bagerhat, Godagari in Rajshahi and Gangachara in Rangpur. Through these welfare centres, all kinds of supporting activities are being conducted for the welfare of orphans and for building a bright future for them.
During a recent visit to Bhairab it was learned that at present the orphanage run by the organization has accommodation for one thousand students. They are growing up in a six-storey building with modern facilities. A School and College has been established at the adjacent place for the orphans and an medical centre was also established in the same place for their treatment.
The school and college now has 600 students. The orphan girls are getting education, knowledge of technology, medical services, and food and drink items free of cost from this institution. Not only that, after a certain period of time, various trainings being arranged from this institution so that these girls can become qualified in the workplaces.
A total of 36 girls of this orphanage went to different public universities for higher education so far, said the authorities. Now four students are studying in Dhaka University, Rajshahi Uinversity and Chattorgram University.
Juena Begum, a former student of the orphanage who is now studying in a nursing institute in Dhaka, said she found a shelter in the orphanage after her father’s death in 2006.
How the life story of a helpless person can be changed with the impact of an organisation would be unknown to me if I didn’t come to this orphanage, said Juena. I can now dream for a happy life, she added.
