Chittagong Bureau :
Editor of the Dainik Purbokone of Chittagong Taslimuddin Chowdhury and its publisher Jasimuddin Choudhury have been acquitted from a defamation case after 13 years. This defamation case was lodged by former Magistrate of Chittagong City Corportation Abu Naser.
In a verdict on Thrsday Additional chief Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mashfiqul Islam discharged the cas . Court sources said the defamation case against the newspaper owners lodged on May 14, 2001 for news item published in the daily which hampers the prestige of the Magistrate.
Magistrate Abu Naser filed a defamation case under section of 500, 501, 502 of BPC before the chief metropolitan magistrate of Chittagong. After taking depositions from 3 witnesses, the case dismissed on Thursday.
Counsel of the accused Advocate Rana Das gupta said aimed at harassing the newspaper owners, this case was filed.
