A public hearing has been held on the activities of Roads and Highways Department (RHD), Rangpur Zone. The public hearing was held at the RHD Rangpur office from 12 noon to 2 pm on Wednesday. Additional Chief Engineer of RHD Rangpur Zone Md. Moniruzzaman presided over the hearing. Engineer under the supervision of Dinajpur Circle, Additional Chief Engineer of Gopalgajna Zone Md. Suruj Mia, Supervising Engineer of RHD Circle Rashedul Alam, Executive Engineer AKM Shafiquzzaman, Executive Engineer of Thakurgaon Mansur Azam, Executive of Lalmonirhat.
At that time, the RHD officials said that during the tenure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, there has been an unprecedented improvement in the road sector. Milestones have been created in the field of road connectivity. There will be no traffic on Rangpur-Dhaka road in future. The present government has made 100 per cent development in various fields.
The RHD is playing a relentless role in implementing the vision of the present government. They said the development of roads would be done on the basis of zero tolerance in the RHD department. No discount will be given in case of quality. During the public hearing, the speakers raised various issues including development of roads in Rangpur zone of RHD, quality standards, straightening of bends, bill complexity of suffering contractors.
Roads are deteriorating rapidly due to overloading. Officials also said at the public hearing that mobile coats would be operated to protect the roads. At the hearing, the contractors complained that although the same contractor is currently banned from doing more than one job, some contractors are getting more than one job. This is depriving small contractors. Also many contractors do not do it themselves.
They hired other contractors. They also called for an end to the controversy over the bill.
Executive engineers, SOs, officers and employees, contractors and media personnel of Rangpur zone and 8 districts of Rangpur division and Bogra and Joypurhat districts were present at the time.
