Officials at a seminar have stressed the need for creating public awareness to ensure proper enforcement of the Consumers’ Right Protection Act (CRPA), 2009, to prevent food poisoning, contamination and related diseases.
The observations came at the seminar on ‘Enhancing Public Awareness through Publicity of the Consumers’ Right Protection Act, 2009,’ organised recently by the district administration at the conference room of Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner.
The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection extended assistance in arranging the seminar.
Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Md Asib Ahsan, officials of different government departments, leaders and representatives of trade bodies, civil society members and consumers participated in the event. Assistant Director of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection for Rangpur Afsana Pervin, Additional Police Super Abu Maruf Hossain, Assistant Police Commissioner (Kotwali Zone) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Jamir Uddin, President of Nababganj Bazar Traders’ Association Akbar Ali addressed the seminar.
The Deputy Commissioner urged traders and representatives of business bodies for working with utmost sincerity and adopting effective measures against supply and marketing of adulterated and poisonous foods to protect public health.
Afsana Pervin delivered PowerPoint presentation narrating various aspects of the Consumers’ Rights Protection Act, 2009, departmental activities and steps taken for proper enforcement the Act to ensure the rights of consumers in the district.
Officials of the Department of Food, Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, District Livestock Office, District Marketing Office, leaders of District unit of Consumers Association of Bangladesh and common consumers spoke.
The speakers called for enhancing public awareness and strict enforcement of the Consumers’ Rights Protection Act, 2009, to protect rights of the consumers for saving public health from food poisoning, other contamination and health hazards.
They put emphasis on making business community members, traders, chamber leaders and common consumers aware of severe consequences of supply, sale and consumption of adulterated and poisonous foods.
