DU Correspondent :
Progressive Student Alliance (PSA), a platform of some left leaning student organisations, will observe day-long strike at Dhaka University (DU) demanding cancellation of all the evening programme.
The leaders and the activists of PSA have already locked all the doors of the classrooms of Arts Faculty, Business Faculty, Science Faculty and other faculties and institutions.
They have requested the students of the university not to attend the classes and transport unit of DU not to bring out buses.
Hasan Taraque, President of Bangladesh Chhatra Union, told The New Nation, “Dhaka University is the largest and
the oldest ancient institution in the country. Students get themselves admitted into the university by dint of their merit. The government allocates funds to run its academic activities smoothly. But some quarters from among the teachers are trying to make the institution commercial. They just want to implement the assignment of World Bank. We have requested the university authorities to stop evening programme, but to no avail. That is why we will observe strike in the university.”
The leaders of the platform announced the programme at a press conference held at the Modhu’s Canteen on May 16.
