Protection of global migration rights stressed

The speakers at a meeting underscored the need for reviewing migration management in light with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for making it more secured and methodical to protect the global migration rights.
“The migration management should be made in light with the SDGs,” Peter Sutherland, a special representative to UN Secretary General, told a special meeting with ambassadors and permanent representatives to UN of ‘Friends of Migration Group’ at Bangabandhu auditorium of Bangladesh Permanent Mission in UN in New York, said a press release here on Thursday.
Bangladesh Permanent Mission to UN organised the meeting as one of the co-chair of the group.
Masud Bin Momen, Bangladesh Permanent Representative to UN, presided over the meeting.
Sutherland also stressed on taking instruction from world leaders for making a time-befitting global compact from “High level meeting of the plenary of the General Assembly to address large movements of refugees and migrants” for removing different migration problems.
He also lauded Bangladesh for conducting diplomatic efforts as a chair of “Global Forum for Migration and Development (GFMD)”.
