BSS, Rajshahi :
Protecting soil productivity from further declining has become crucial for boosting crop production to ensure food security of the country, some grassroots farmers at an experience and view-sharing meeting here said.
They told the meeting that the soil productivity has gradually been declining as the soil has becoming strongly acidic following repeated crop cultivation together with indiscriminate using of chemical fertilizers and pesticides round the year.
They, however, said using organic fertilizer could be the effective means of amending the acid soils for boosting crop production in the country.
The observations came in the meeting styled “Problems and Prospects of Crops Farming amidst the present Changing Climatic Condition” held at Bargachhi Madhaipara village under Paba Upazila of the district on Saturday.
Bangladesh Resource Center for Indigenous Knowledge (BARCIK), a collective initiative for participatory research, policy advocacy and campaign, organized meeting in association with its ‘Strengthen Peoples Led Resiliency Programme to Climate Change Disaster Risk Reduction’.
Farmers Ismail Hossain, Jakir Hossain and Gaziar Rahman, President of Paba Press Club Kazi Nazmul Hussain and social elite Saiful Hossain spoke on the occasion sharing their experience and expertise.
In his address of welcome, Shahidul Islam, Regional Coordinator of BARCIK, narrated the objectives of the meeting and sought cooperation from all concerned towards disseminating the ideas among the farmers.
