Protecting soil health to get safe food emphasized

Experts at a workshop on Integrated Pests’ Management (IPM) have put importance on application of organic fertilisers for protecting soil health to get safe food.
They made the observation at the event organised by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) at Garaber Government Primary School ground in Pirganj municipality in Rangpur district on Thursday.
Deputy Director of the DAE for Rangpur Agriculturalist Dr. Md. Sarwarul Haque presided over the workshop participated by farmers, local dignitaries, political leaders and people of various professions.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan attended the event as chief guest.
Pirganj Upazila Chairman Nur Mohammad Mandal, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Birodha Rani Roy and Pirganj Municipality Mayor Tajimul Islam Shamim were present as special guests.
The event was arranged to enhance awareness among farmers about the essence of using organic fertilisers and proper pest management adopting environment-friendly techniques and scientific methods to produce safe crops.
Pirganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturalist Sadekuzzaman Sarkar gave a welcome speech narrating the goals and objectives of the workshop.
Agriculturalist Sarwarul Haque said it is necessary to pay attention to the application of organic fertilizer to arable lands to protect the soil health in order to get safe food to protect the public health.
