Protect Sundarbans’ biodiversity: Experts

Top tour operators and tourism experts here on Thursday laid emphasis on protecting the biodiversity and wildlife of the world’s only mangrove forest – Sundarbans-urging tourists to practice responsible tourism while visiting it.
Some tourists and picnic parties in the Sundarbans are seen using loudspeakers, littering garbage everywhere and trying to feed junk food to deer that are clear threats to wildlife and ecology of the forest, they observed.
The made the observation while speaking at a workshop at the seminar hall of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC).
The National Hospitality and Tourism Training Institute (NHTTI) and Tourism Forum of Bangladesh (TFB) titled ‘Nirapad Sundarbans Brahomon (Safe Tour to the Sundarbans)’ jointly arranged the workshop, said a media release.
Nearly 2.75 lakh tourists are visiting the Sundarbans annually and among them 15 percent are foreign tourists, they said.
Executive Director of Bangla Tours Masud Hossain conducted the workshop and discussed safe and sustainable tourism, existing problems and new policy for Sundarbans tour operation.
Masud said, the government and all tourism stakeholders make sure that no tourism structure can hamper the ecology or wildlife Sundarbans.
Acting principal of NHTTI Ainul Kabir inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest while General Secretary PATA Bangladesh Chapter Taufiq Rahman presided.
Around 25 tour operators and 20 tour guides attended the workshop in an effort to help them operate safe and eco-friendly Sundarbans tours in near future.
