Prosecution starts placing arguments against Shariatpur Razakar duo

The prosecution at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-BD) on Tuesday started placing arguments in the crimes against humanity case against two alleged Razakars from Shariatpur.
The two accused are Sulaiman Mollah, 84, of Kashipur Muslimpara and Edris Ali Sarder alias Gazi Edris, 67, of Mahmudpur of the district. Of the two accused, Edris is still on the run.
“Senior prosecutor Zead-al Malum submitted the arguments in part before the three-member panel of the tribunal yesterday. The tribunal adjourned the hearing till today,” said prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chemon.
A total of 13 prosecution witnesses (PWs) including the investigation officer have testified before the tribunal in the case and were cross-examined by the state-appointed defence counsel hereafter.
Earlier on May 2, the tribunal framed four charges including genocide and rape against the duo.
According to the prosecution, Sulaiman was a Muslim League leader and subsequently joined Peace Committee and Razakar Bahini in 1971 in Shariatpur. Edris was a leader of Islami Chhatra Sangha, the then student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, and joined Razakar Bahini in 1971.
