Prosecution seeks capital punishment in Avijit murder case

The prosecution yesterday completed their closing arguments and sought capital punishment for all six Ansar al Islam leaders and activists in the case filed over killing blogger and writer Avijit Roy in February 2015.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Sarwar Hossain Khan Zakir told the tribunal that they were able to prove the charges brought against the accused and sought death penalty for them.
The accused people are: Maj (sacked) Ziaul Haque

Zia, Mozammel Hossain alias Saymon (34), Abu Siddiq Sohel alias Sakib alias Sajid (34), Arafat Rahman Siam alias Sajjad( 24), Akram Hossain Abir alias Adnan (30) and Shafiur Rahman Farabi (27). Of them, Zia and Akram are on the run while the rest are in the jail.
After completion of the argument, Judge Majibur Rahman of the Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal set today (Thursday) to hear the defence arguments.
Earlier, the tribunal recorded statements of 28 prosecution witnesses, including the complainant, of the case.
