Proposed budget to help bring changes peoples fate, says lawmakers

 Lawmakers participating in the 10th day on general discussions on Wednesday said the proposed budget for fiscal 2017-18 would help bring change the peoples fate and pave the way to reach the country to a middle income one by 2021.
They said the proposed mega budget would raise its GDP growth and improve people’s fate by increasing their per capita income.
Taking part in the general discussion on the proposed budget, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said during the regime of the Jatiya Party country’s revenue income was only Taka 5,292 crore in 1989-90, it was Taka 37,000 crore in 2006-07 under the BNP government while it has been raised to Taka 2,48,000 crore in 2016-17 under the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
About the proposed budget, the commerce minister told the parliament that “it would be a ‘favorite budget for all time’ after bringing in correction by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her closing address in the parliament on June 28.”
Highlighting significant allocation for poverty alleviation and social security, he said the proposed budget has given high importance on the social security, which would help reduce poverty.
“Now the poverty has declined to 23 per cent from 43 per cent and we have a target to cut the poverty rate at 13 per cent by the end of the tenure, Tofail said, adding that it [poverty] would be less than 3 per cent by 2030,”
Terming the proposed budget as pro development, civil aviation and tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon told the parliament that alongside all the economic index Bangladesh already has incurred significant development in various sector including agriculture, health, education and social security and the proposed budget is the manifestation of development.
Praising all the national budgets submitted by the Awami League government, Dr Abdur Razzaque said the country has achieved tremendous success in all sphere due to successful implementation of these budgets.
