Promoting women entrepreneurship for national development stressed

Promoting women entrepreneurship and enhanced emancipation of women in economic activities have become crucial for attaining the sustainable development goals (SDGs) to build a developed country.
The opinion came at the launching function of an ‘Ananda Mela-2020’ of women entrepreneurs held at Public Library ground in Rangpur marking celebration of the centenary birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Rangpur unit of Jatiya Mahila Sangstha (JMS) arranged a fair recently under the Promotion of Women Entrepreneurs for Economic Empowerment Project (3rd Phase) of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs. Women entrepreneurs from across the district have set up 31 stalls on the fairground displaying their varieties of colourful readymade garment, handicraft and cottage industry products.
Deputy Commissioner, Rangpur Md. Asib Ahsan inaugurated the fair by cutting ribbon in the launching function as the chief guest with Chairman of Rangpur unit of JMS Rosy Rahman in the chair.
Former Awami League (AL) lawmaker Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia, President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its Organising Secretary Touhidur Rahman Tutul, General Secretary of city AL Tushar Kanti Mandal, President of district Chhatra League Mehedee Hasan Rony addressed as special guests. The speakers said the country would continue to move forward with the advancement of women to further accelerate pace of national development in building a middle income nation by 2021, and subsequently a developed country by 2041.
The chief guest said the country’s women community and female entrepreneurs have been playing a vital role in accelerating the socioeconomic uplift activities in every sector through their vital contribution and leadership. He said the present government is providing all necessary assistance, support and training to women entrepreneurs to produce quality products and further flourish their trade, business, commerce, industries and enterprises.
“Besides, the present government has taken massive programmes for turning the grassroots level womenfolk into skilled human resources to ensure their enhanced participation in the economic activities and empowerment,” he added.
