The people of Rangpur are ready to observe the National Mourning Day-2017 and 42nd martyrdom anniversary of the Architect of Independence and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman here on Tuesday next.
The district administration, Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies, socio-cultural and professional organisations, educational institutions and government departments have taken elaborate programmes to observe the day.
The observance will begin through placing wreaths at the Mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman here in the morning after wearing black badges.
One-minute silence will be observed in front of the Mural of Bangabandhu before bringing out a mourning procession with participation of hundreds of people from all walks in life.
The programmes also include hoisting of the national flag at half-mast in all government, semi-government, autonomous, private buildings and educational institutions after sunrise.
District Information Office will screen documentary films on ‘Chironjib Bangabandhu’, ‘Osomapta Mohakabbyo’, ‘Amader Bangabandhu’, ‘Swadhinota Amar Swadhinota’ and ‘Swadhinota Amader Ki Kore Halo’ at different places.
Rangpur Betar Kendra will air special programmes and the local newspapers publish special supplements on Bangabandhu on the day.
Bangladesh Shishu Academy will organise competitions on drawing and essay writing for children and cultural programmes focusing life and deeds of Bangabandhu and true national history.
The Islamic Foundation will organise programmes, including recitation from the Holy Qur’an, Hamd, Naat and Doa mahfil, and a special discussion on the life and deeds of Bangabandhu at its auditorium.
Milad mahfils will be organised and special munajats and prayers offered at the mosques, mandirs, churches, pagodas and educational institutions seeking divine blessings for the departed soul of Bangabandhu.
The district administration will organise the main discussion on Bangabandhu at Town Hall auditorium to be followed by a prize giving ceremony with Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman in the chair.
Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed will attend the discussion as chief guest and distribute prizes among winners of different competitions.

The programmes include hoisting of national flag at half-mast atop government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings, hoisting of black flags and wearing black badges, bringing out morning procession, observing one-minute silence and holding discussion and milad mahfil at Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
In addition, discussion meetings highlighting the life and deeds of
Bangabandhu will be arranged in all schools, colleges, madrashas and special milad mahfils and prayers will be offered at all religious institution.
Improved diets will be served to the inmates of Rajshahi Central Jail, orphanages, shishu paribars and vagabond centres.
Besides, painting competitions, essay writing, Hamd and Nat, recitation of poems and discussion meetings on Bangabandhu and the true national history will be arranged at the Shishu Academy.The city, district and upazila units of Awami League and its front organisations and Muktijoddha Sangshads have also chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of the Day in the city and all other upazila headquarters in a befitting manner.
BSS from Mymensingh adds: District administration has chalked out an elaborate programme to observe the National Mourning Day and 42nd Martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who was killed by some disgruntled army men on August 15 in 1975.
The programmes include hoisting of national flag at half mast atop of all government, non government, private buildings and educational institutions, placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, hoisting of black flags, wearing black badges, mourning procession, discussion and special prayers.
Besides a photo exhibition related to Bangabandhu and war of liberation in 1971 will be held at language martyred Abdul Jabber auditorium here.
District Shilpakala Academy and Shishu Academy will also arrange art competition, recitation of poetry, essay writings, ham and nat competition and doa mahfil to mark the day.
Special payers will also be offered at all mosques, pagodas, temples and other religious institutions.
Improved diet will be served to inmates in Mymensingh Central Jail, patients in Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) and orphans living in government orphanage institutions. Muktijoddha Sangshad will also distribute foods among the distress people.
Documentary on Bangabandhu and liberation war will be screened at Krishnochora Chatter and on Ananda Mohan Government College premises by district information office.
