Programmes on National Mourning Day

Dhaka City Awami League general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya,Bir Bikram, on Saturday requested BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia not to celebrate her fake birthday on the National Mourning Day on August 15 for the sake of healthy politics.
The Awami League (AL) leader made the call while speaking as the chief guest at an extended meeting of Dhaka City AL at its Bangabandhu Avenue office in the city. Dhaka City AL convened the meeting with the view to announce a 40-day programme to mark the National Mourning Day.
Maya, also Relief and Disaster Management Minister, said, “It’s a very positive sign for the country’s politics that BNP has returned to the right track rectifying its past faults. It will be treated as a big positive change in the national politics if Begum Khaleda Zia refrains from celebrating her fake birthday on August 15, the day overshadowed with the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”
Acting president of Dhaka City AL MA Aziz chaired the meeting, also addressed, among others, by vice-presidents Faezuddin Miah and Sheikh Bazlur Rahman, joint secretary and Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, joint secretary Awlad Hossain, organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad and publicity secretary Abdul Huq Sabuj.
Advocate Quamrul Islam said, “Respect and honour should be expressed to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by all the political parties and people irrespective of class and profession as are done in other countries around the world.”
At the outset of the meeting, Maya announced the 40-day programme of the National Mourning Day.
The programmes include visit to the grave of Bangabandhu at Tungipara at 7 am on August 1, observance of birthdays of Bangabandhu’s eldest son Sheikh Kamal on August 5 and Bangabandhu’s wife Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib on August 8, making a success the programmes of Awami League on August 15, participation in the AL’s discussion at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on August 16, holding of a discussion on the day marking series bomb attacks on August 17, placing of wreaths at the memorial of martyrs of the grenade attack on August 21, holding of a discussion on grenade attack day on August 22 and bringing out a mourning procession in the city on August 31.
Besides, Dhaka City AL will organise a discussion on August 8 or August 9 to mark the National Mourning Day.
