Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Founding President of ‘Bishwa Shahitya Kendro’, was honoured with an award by the literary magazine “Obinashwar” on April 23 last. The daylong event was held at the Abdul Karim Shahitya Bisharod Convention Centre of Bangla Academy marking 10th founding anniversary of the magazine.
Six other persons were also given Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain Memorial Award for their significant contribution to different fields including literature, photography, fine arts, journalism and singing.
They are Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed (education), Nashid Kamal (music), Mohammed Abdul Hai (Liberation War), Rafiqur Rashid (research), Golam Mostafa (photography) and Barun Chakraborty (poetry).
Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud was the chief guest at the ceremony, moderated by the founding editor of the magazine and president of PEN Bangladesh Farida Hossain.
Minister for Water Resources Anisul Islam Mahmud handed over the awards to the recipients as the chief guest at a programme held at Bangla Academy auditorium in the city.
‘Obinashwar’, a literary journal, gave the award on the occasion of its 10th founding anniversary.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed expressed his gratitude to all concerned for honouring him with the award.
He urged everyone to lead a ‘simple and enlightened’ life.
In his speech, the water resources minister said although the number of literally educated people has been on the rise in Bangladesh, that of enlightened and good-natured people is not increasing.
