The probe committee investigating the murder of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi found negligence of duty amongst four police officials including now withdrawn Shonagazi police OC.

The committee, responsible for probing the role of related individual in the murder, is scheduled to submit the probe report to the inspector general of police on Tuesday.

“The investigation is over. The report is almost ready,” said the committee chief Deputy Inspector General of police headquarters SM Ruhul Amin.

Sources said that a total of 37 people including Feni police Superintendent SM Jahangir Alam Sarker and former OC Moazzem Hossain were questioned by the committee.

On Apr 12, a Human Rights Commission committee lodged a probe report holding the police and administration responsible for the murder.

It said that the arson attack on Nusrat could’ve been avoided if the madrasa committee and the local administration had taken her complaints of sexual harassment against former madrasa principal Siraj-ud-Daula seriously.

Nusrat, a student of Shonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa was set on fire on Apr 6 for refusing to withdraw sexual assault charges against Siraj.

She died on Apr 10 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital Burn Unit after battling extensive burn injuries for five days.

Her brother filed a case on Apr 8 accusing eight people over the attack. The case was handed over to Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Apr 10 after her death.

The PBI arrested 23 people in connection to the murder and 10 have already confessed to carrying out the attack at the behest of Siraj.
