Staff Reporter :
The three-member probe committee, which was formed by High Court, submitted its report to the court on Thursday over the incident of gang rape of a woman in Noakhali that sparked outrage across the country after a video clip of the incident had gone viral on the social media network.
The probe committee in its report said that the ASP circle of Begumganj and OC of Begumganj police station had negligence in their parts in taking immediate action against the perpetrators who were involved in raping and torturing the woman.
It is unbelievable that they (ASP and OC) did not come to know about the matter for more than one month even after having their own sources, said the committee suggesting to take legal action against them for their negligence.
The committee found the husband of the victim woman responsible in the rape incident. The committee said that although the husband has not had any communication with the victim woman for 10 to 12 years, he made the communication with her 5 to 6 days before the incident. Besides his inaction after the incident proved that he had involvement with it, added the committee.
The perpetrators tortured the woman different times while keeping the video clip of the incident in pending, said the committee.
Earlier on October 5 this year the High Court bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim formed the committee in a Suo Moto move after a Supreme Court lawyer, Abdullah Al Mamun, brought some news reports regarding the issue to the attention of the court.
The inquiry committee was asked to probe into as to whether any negligence were found in part of the law enforcing agencies to take immediate action against the perpetrators who were involved in raping and torturing of the woman.
