Police have formed a three-member panel to investigate the arrest of a journalist in Habiganj on drugs charges which his family says are false.
Superintendent of Police Bidhan Tripura said the probe will be headed by Assistant Police Superintendent Rabiul Islam.
Police detained and beat Sirajul Islam, a Habiganj correspondent of the US-based SA channel, on Thursday night, his family alleged. Islam was sent to court and later to jail in a “false” narcotics case.
The committee was asked to submit the probe report within three workdays, Tripura said. The court will make a decision based on the report.
Several cultural organisations have staged a protest in front of the district administration office on Saturday demanding the release of Islam and punishment to the accused police officers.
