Pro-people VAT act in the offing: NBR chief

Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Md Nojibur Rahman has said the new Value Added Tax (VAT) and Supplementary Duty Act, to be effective from July 1 next, will definitely be pro-people.
“We are working sincerely to formulate a time-befitting VAT and Supplementary Duty Act giving top priority on saving interests of the local industries eliminating weaknesses in the same,” he said.
The NBR Chairman, also Senior Secretary to the Internal Resources Division, made these observations today at a pre-budget views-sharing meeting with all concerned people of Rangpur division at Shitol Community Centre in the city as the chief guest.
The NBR with assistance of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) organised the meeting with RCCI President Md Abul Kashem in the chair.
Divisional level high officials, Deputy Commissioners, Presidents, Vice-presidents and Directors of ten Chambers of Commerce and Industries, traders, exporters, importers and industrialists from all eight districts under Rangpur division participated.
Commissioner of Taxes for Rangpur Zone Md Harun-Ar-Rashid delivered welcome speech in the meeting.
RCCI President Abul Kashem narrated about backwardness of Rangpur region in the fields of economy, industrialisation, infrastructural developments, road and railway communications and many other sectors.
To ensure smooth development of Rangpur region, he asked for keeping provisions of separate industrial, loan, tax and VAT policies in the upcoming national budget to attract local and foreign investors to flourish job-intensive industries in the region.
