Pro-Imran activist missing

Azizul Haq Khan Kanak, a first year student of Finance Department and resident of Zia Hall of Dhaka University, has mysteriously disappeared from city’s Fuller Road area on Tuesday evening.
Kanak, who is an activist of Ganajagaromn Mancha and a central leader Chhatra Union, sought help from his friends and Chhatra Union leaders when he could sense that he was in trouble, according to Kanak’s family members and friends.
The disappearance of Kanak , known as loyal to Ganojagaran Mancha spokesperson Dr. Imran H Sarker, apparently indicates that a crack has surfaced in the pro and anti-Imran
camps of the Mancha. There are reports of attacks and counter attacks between the followers of pro- and anti-Imran camps during the last couple of days.
Kanak was a resident of room-225 of Zia hall. Suruzuddin, Duty officer of Shahbagh thana said. The investigation officer has already gathered the call list of Kanak to proceed with the investigation, he said adding his disappearance took place at around 7 PM on Tuesday.
 Kanak made phone calls to Maruf Billah, president of Chhatra Union Dhaka University, Liton Nandi, secretary of the same organisation and Tuhin Das, cultural secretary of the central committee for their help stating that “he was in trouble,” the victim’s friends said.
But, when Tuhin Das went to Fuller road looking for Kanak, he was not found there and his mobile phone was found switched off, they said.
Meanwhile, Zia Hall provost ABM Faruq filed a general diary (GD) with Shahbagh police station on Wednesday afternoon, Kazi Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station said.
According to the case statement, Kanak was on way to his hall on Tuesday afternoon from the house of his sister Monira Yasmin. Monira was also a former DU president of the Chhatra Union. On his way back to the hall, he went to Fuller road for teaching a student. He made telephonic requests to some Chhatra Union leaders to rescue him from there mentioning that he was in trouble.
Later, he went his phone was found switched off.
Monira Yasmin expressing anxiety about her brother told the media that they searched for Kanak every possible place they could. She sought help of all concerned for rescue of her brother.
Lucky Akter, a central committee leader of Chhatra Union, said they knew nothing about the mystery behind the incident. Kanak has been very active both in Chhatra Union and Ganajagaron Mancha, she said.
