DU Correspondent :
Pro-BNP teachers of the Dhaka University (DU) on Wednesday demanded withdrawal of the decision granting the forced leave to a Dhaka University (DU) teacher by the university syndicate.
The Pro-BNP teachers expressed deep concern and protested the illegal action against a teacher of the university Physics Department Professor ABM Obaidul Islam. They said this in a written statement yesterday.
They said that the Physics Department Chairman Professor Azizur Rahman bought some equipment of the department beyond the knowledge of the finance committee. The committee is consisted of Professor Khandoker Sadat Hossain, Professor ABM Obaidul Islam, Dr Wahiduzzaman and Dr Naimul Islam.
Professor Khandoker Sadat Hossain and Professor ABM Obaidul Islam went to chairman’s room to know how he took the decision without informing them. At one stage, the department Chairman Professor Azizur Rahman hurled abusive words at ABM Obaidul Islam. But unexpectedly, the university took action against Obaidul Islam instead of Professor Azizur Rahman.
They said that Professor ABM Obaidul Islam was the General Secretary of DU Teachers Association twice. He is at present executive member of the association. ” The university syndicate’s decision against Professor ABM Obaidul Islam was totally a political agenda. It would never bring positive result.”
They also requested the university authorities to initiate a fair investigation of the incident.
Professor Sadrul Amin, Professor AFM Yousuf Haider, Professor Abul Kalma Azad, Professor Tajmary SA Islam, Professor Aminur Rahman Majumder, Professor Akhter Hossain Khan, Professor Laila Noor Islam, Professor Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Professor Abul Bashar and Professor Abdur Rashid signed the statement, among others.
