The Education Ministry will hold a meeting with the college principals today (Thursday) to discuss about the militancy issue.
As per the plan of the Education Ministry, a ‘peace rally’ with all the principals of the colleges under the
National University will be held at Krishibid Institution Auditorium. National University (NU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Harun-or-Rashid will preside at the rally where Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will be present as the chief guest.
An announcement to hold peace rally at every college under the NU will be delivered in order to create awareness among the teachers, the students and the guardians about terrorism and terror attack.
The Education Minister will also give some directions to the college principals, the ministry sources said.
The Education Ministry will also hold a meeting with all the madrasa principals in the last week of this month to discuss about how to check militancy in their institutions, ministry source said.
Before it, the ministry sat with the vice-chancellors, the senior teachers and the top officials of public and private universities on July 16 for talks on the same issue.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said, “We sat with the public and private university administrations and asked them to take proper initiative to desist their teachers, students and campus from belligerent activities. We will hold meeting with the college principals today. Now it is emergency to sit with the madrasa principals.”
“We have been working for militancy free campuses across the country. It is possible to vanish the harmful elements from the society if the teachers work properly,” the minister said.
The officials of the ministry told The New Nation that the militant groups had targeted the private universities’ students instead of the madrasa students. But it is not yet known as to why the madrasah students have been ignored?
To check the militancy, the ministry has decided to hold a meeting with the principals, the officials said. The invitation letters would be sent soon.
An official wishing anonymity told this reporter, the ministry wants to invite all the top teachers of Quawmi madrasahs all over the country.
“The ministry still believes that the militant groups are working to generate their manpower from madrasahs. That is why the top officials of the ministry took some initiative to sit with them. They will ask the teachers of the madrasahs to be cautious about the harmful people,” he said.
