The prime accused in a case filed for abducting and killing an 11-year-old boy in Dakshin Keraniganj was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Chitkhola area of Dhaka district early Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Motahar Ali, inhabitant in the area, RAB official said.
RAB-10 Commanding Officer Jahangir Hossain Matabor said that RAB had signalled two motorcycles to stop at a checkpost in Chitkhola in Keraniganj upazila in the district around 4:00am but they attempted to speed away.
He said the riders opened fire at the law enforcers in an attempt to flee. In retaliation, RAB officials fired back that left Motahar bullet wounded while the rider of his motorcycle managed to flee the scene. Later, he was declared dead when taken to Mitford Hospital.
He said: “Two others riding on another motorcycle also managed to flee the scene. We became sure of Motahar’s identity from the ATM and national ID cards found in his pocket.”
Meanwhile, police recovered a pistol and seized the motorcycle carrying Motahar.The body of Abdullah, 11, a class V student of Mugarchar Government Primary School and son of Md Badol Hossain, was recovered from a plastic drum at a house in Mugarchar area after four days of his abduction.
Abdullah was abducted on January 29 by his relatives Mehedi Hasan, Khorshed Alam, Al Amin Ahmed and Mitu Akhter, who are also the suspects of the case.
Mehedi, in primary interrogation, confessed that he along with his father Motahar was involved in the abduction and murder of the boy.
Family sources said the child’s family paid Tk 2 lakh as ransom against Tk 5.5 lakh demanded by the captors.
