As per the proposed budget the prices of various products would be changed in the market. The prices will either increase or decrease based on proposed changes to duties on different products, including raw materials, in the new budget of 2021-22 fiscal year.
As per proposal, prices may be increased for the items given bellow:
Imported mobile phones, Lubricants, Sugar confectionary, Cigarettes, Alcohol, Mineral oil, Soap, Carnival/entertainment articles, Rice bran oil, Imported carrots, Mushrooms, Imported Meat, Meat, Vehicle safety glass, Iron bars and rods, Motors over 750W, Tiles & Sanitary ware,
Besides, the prices may be decreased for the items given bellow:
COVID test kits, Raw materials for tiles, Ingredients used in anti-cancer medicine, Ingredients used for producing medicine, Stainless Steel, Poultry feed, Puffed rice, Fresh fruit, Agricultural machines, Microbus, Hybrid cars, LED lights, Local LPG cylinder, Materials used for manufacturing medical devices and Sanitary napkin (locally produced) and its raw products.
The prices of locally manufactured or assembled blender, juicer, mixer, grinder, electric kettle, rice cooker, multi cooker, pressure cooker, washing machine, microwave oven, and electric oven could be pushed down.
At the same time, the locally produced or assembled
computer, laptop, notebook, notepad, tab, keyboard, mouse, motherboard, power bank, router, network switch, network device/hub, speaker, sound system, earphone, headphone, pen drive, micro SD card, flash memory card, CCTV, monitor, projector, USB cable, data cable, power tiller, combined harvester may be available in lower prices.
Most significantly, the price of cigarettes will be increased with an aim to reduce smoking and increase tax revenue.
The minimum price for 10 sticks of low-tier cigarettes will be set at Tk 39, with a supplementary duty of 57 percent. The minimum price of mid-tier cigarettes will be set at Tk 63, high-tier cigarettes at 102, and premium tier cigarettes at Tk 135, with a supplementary duty of 65 percent for these tiers.
In the budget, the government has decided to keep the existing prices of bidi unchanged. Currently, the minimum price of 25-stick handmade bidi is Tk 18, Tk 9 for 12-stick bidi and Tk 6 for 8-stick bidi, with a supplementary duty of 30 percent for all three.
The price of filter-tipped bidi is Tk 19 for 20 sticks and Tk 10 for 10 sticks, with a supplementary duty of 40 percent for both. The prices of Jarda, Tk 40 for 10 gm, and Gul, Tk 20 for 10 gm, will also remain the same, with a supplementary duty of 55 percent for all of them.
